English course in Boston, USA

Old City Hall, Boston
Old City Hall, Boston

Boston

Take a trip back in time with an English course in Boston! As one of America’s oldest cities and having played a large part in the American Revolution, Boston is soaked in history. The Freedom Trail, which runs through Downtown Boston, marks the city’s most important historical sites. Stop for a break along the way and sample traditional Bostonian dishes like clam chowder and fish and chips.

‘The Athens of America’ is a renowned centre of learning, with more than 100 colleges and universities in the city, and both Harvard and MIT just across the Charles River in Cambridge. You’ll meet students from all over the world whilst you learn English in Boston!

This is a very compact city, making it easy for you to explore after your English lessons. One of the city's major landmarks is Fenway Park, America’s oldest professional sports ground and home to the famous Boston Red Sox baseball team. Outside of Boston you’ll encounter the stunning scenery of New England, especially spectacular as trees shed their colourful leaves in the autumn. No matter what time of year you visit though, Boston’s packed cultural calendar will provide you with plenty of things to see and do!

  Our school in Boston, USA

The school computer room
The school computer room
Our English language school is located right in the heart of Boston, in the upscale Back Bay area, just around the corner from the historic Boston Common. As well as bright, comfortable classrooms, our school has a library, a computer lab with free Internet access and communal areas where you can relax and socialise following class.

Courses

All of our school’s teachers are highly trained and experienced, so whichever English course in Boston you choose, you’ll receive first-rate tuition! Each course deals with speaking, listening, reading and writing, as well as grammar, thus improving your general level of English.

Our school’s Standard and Intensive courses are both group-based, allowing you to meet and socialize with lots of other students. The Standard course consists of 20 English lessons per week, giving you plenty of free time to discover Boston and New England! If you require a faster pace of learning, the Intensive course is made up of 30 group classes a week.

The quickest way to learn English is with Private Lessons. One-on-one tuition allows your teacher to dedicate all of their time to developing your language skills, focusing on areas where you need to improve. For a mixture of group and individual classes, take the Combined Course.

If you want to really immerse yourself in the language and local culture, take an Academic Year program, comprising either 24 or 30 lessons per week. These courses offer a truly comprehensive learning program, at a discounted price!

Work Experience is another way you can achieve fluency and experience the Bostonian way of life. Our school can arrange a placement with a local company for you, allowing you to practice your English in everyday situations, with native English speakers. Preceded by an Intensive course of at least four weeks, internships are available in fields such as law, marketing, journalism, tourism, administration and computing.

Our school also offers a variety of other courses, including programs to prepare you for the Cambridge Exam or the TOEFL exam. Please contact us if you require further details on how you can learn English in Boston.

Accommodation

Live with one of our school’s friendly host families for as much as language practice as possible! Mealtimes are a particularly good time to chat with your English-speaking hosts, and each day they’ll provide you with breakfast and dinner, or just breakfast if you prefer. Our school takes great care when selecting host families and also monitors them regularly.

Alternatively, you can live with your fellow students, either in our school’s residence, or in shared apartments. The residence is located within walking distance of the school, in Downtown Boston. Each shared room has air conditioning, a television, telephone, microwave, refrigerator and access to a shared bathroom.

Shared apartment accommodation is situated in the Fenway area of the city, a 20-minute commute away from the school and close to museums and restaurants. Every apartment has a kitchen, bathroom and free wireless Internet access. Stay in a single or a double room as you enjoy the company of other students!

Our school also offers lodging in private studio apartments in the Back Bay district, a short walk from the school. These apartments come equipped with a private bathroom, a small kitchen, air conditioning, wireless Internet connection and cable television.

Activities

So that you enjoy your trip as much as possible, our school organises a packed program of leisure activities, some of which are included with your English course in Boston. During the afternoons and evenings, you’ll be shown the best of the Boston area, taking in places like Harvard University, historic Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, the New England Aquarium and the neighbouring city of Cambridge.

Weekends bring you the chance to see more of the USA and beyond, on excursions lasting one or two days. Regular destinations include New York, Cape Cod, Lexington, Toronto, Montreal, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and even Niagara Falls!

How to get there

If you like, our school can collect you from Logan International Airport and take you directly to your accommodation. This service does, however, carry an additional charge.

Get a taste of Boston by visiting the website of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau. Of course, you can always contact us if you have any questions about our English courses, or about the city itself.
